Well, if you mean to execute SQL scripts (with more than one sentence), ZSQLProcessor is for you.
Now backup and restore. MDO (Mercury Database Objects) is a GREAT library, full of extras. BUT, it's only for firebird/interbase, as the description at sourceforge suggests:
If these components existed, they should be very modular to support all backup routines, as far I know, different at every DB. And all the DBs that Zeos support should have built-in backup/restore, which may not be true.

So, backup and restore components in MDO and similars, are just interfaces to the gbak service, which doesn't exist in other databases. A big problem, taking from the view of Zeos, which supports other databases than FB/IB.MDO is an open source data-access component suite, providing direct access to Firebird from Borland Delphi applications. MDO is a descendant of FreeIBComponents by Greg Deatz, so IBX users looking for a migration path to Firebird can have a look at these
