I have implemented some triggers as workarounds to the missing FK constraint. I would like to know if there is a way to report the exact error when the trigger fires because I have to go over.

It would be usefull to tell us what database you are using. Maybe even better would be when you also give us some more details on what the trigger does. How the error is raised, ...
