Versions of ZeosDBO

Post by smsanti »

Have just registered at this forum. In the moment I have the mission of converting a great system of Delphi 5 + ODA + MSAccess for Delphi 7 + ZeosLib (probably) + PostgreSQL 8.0.3 and I have some subjects regarding ZeosLib:

1. Exists ZeosDBO-6.1.5 Stable (04/04/29), ZeosDBO-6.5.0 alpha (04/07/12) and ZeosDBO-6.5.1 alpha (04/11/14). Therefore do I ask why the versions 6.5 alpha is still? Why not beta or stable?

2. How is the work now? What is intended for a new version?

3. Did anybody already compare ZeosLib with the pgExpress of VitaVoom and could it inform me why to choose one or another?

4. Can I help in some way?

Hi samsanti,
  1. Some reasons for that are explained in this thread (" any news re: alpha --> full release"). The other thing is that the alpha still has to pass some procedures to put it into beta (and finally stable) state.
  2. All currently active members in the team are working on bug fixing to lessen this load we currently have. There also will be some changes and small new features in the beta (as it is currently in CVS).
  3. No, we did'nt care about that, yet. So we can't tell you which one is better. But one thing is to consider: ZoesLib tries to achieve to be a collection of data access components that can be used for multiple database servers. pgExpress is specialized only on PostGre so they can go into PostGre's details and do not have to care about "compatibility" to other servers and support PostGre's special features (if there are any).
  4. I currently don't know but we will keep you in mind if we need some help concerning PostGre. Is this o.k. for you?
:prog2: Use the source, dude!

Hello, Michael:

Thank you for the answers.

With relation with to the project that I described and knowing the versions of ZeosLib better that me, which version you recommend me?

With relation to PostgreSQL or others where my capacity allows they can count on me.

Finally. Do you have or know where I can find a matrix of characteristics of the databases supported by ZeosLib?
