I can see that with utf8 the ecoding works for äé etc but not for russian.

It just that i saw the IBComponents do the job on firebird with FSS_UNICODE
There i could enter russian greek and Dutch in one string.
So im sure this must be the route for a multilang one day. Maby that day is just not today.

Mmmm.. so you say its better to use a codepage per database per country. then Russian or other languages should be encoded. I was hoping for a full Unicode solution but i guess that's to a bit to much for now. I will try some more variants but the strange thing was the default IB components in Delph...

I use Delphi XE for this. I am still on delphi 7 for the project for now. I have looked at the divergent codepages to but using the "CODEPAGE=FFS_UNICODE" and having the databse in FFS_UNICODE gives this problem. I make synchronizations with web shops and some of them have mixed langauges ...
